Phi Phi is a group of islands. TAT names Tonsai and Loh Dalum as the central bays of Phi Phi Don, where visitors can stay. Maya Bay is on Phi Phi Le, reached by boat under park rules. Loh Ba Kao is another bay on Don. ThaiVentures names it in a photo story; the resort there spells it Loh Ba Gao.

That map distinction changes the trip. Loh Ba Kao is a choice about where you wake up on Don. Maya Bay, when accessible, is an outing away from your base. Give each its own place in the day.

Tonsai is a central Phi Phi Don bay; the resort at Loh Ba Kao describes its setting as away from the main tourist hub. SAii Phi Phi Island Village fronts Loh Ba Kao and calls its own beach stretch private. The wider bay and a resort’s guest facilities are different things.

If you want the central village close by in the evening, compare a Tonsai-area room. If a day based around your own stretch of coast sounds better, look at accommodation around Loh Ba Kao. Ask how you arrive from the boat landing and how you get back after an outing. Those details will shape more of your stay than a generic “Phi Phi” address.

It is a welcome reminder that a day on Phi Phi Don can be about more than the central pier or a boat to another island. Choose whether you want to spend that day near your room or go to a different part of Don.

If you are based at Tonsai, ask your accommodation or boat operator how to reach Loh Ba Kao and how to return; the two names on a map are not a walking route. If you are staying at the bay, find out what your accommodation makes available to guests and leave time to enjoy the place you chose. SAii’s private beach and facilities should not be assumed open to everyone visiting the bay.

The Department of National Parks announced that Maya Bay on Phi Phi Le is closed from 1 August through 30 September 2026. That does not close Phi Phi Don. For a September stay, choose your Don base for the days you can spend there, whether that means a central evening or time around Loh Ba Kao. For later travel, look up the park’s current access notice before making Maya Bay the reason for the trip.
